In Conversation with Lisa Bast, Founder of WoofPackTrails:

Lisa:

So this anti-microbial material is traded to kill odor causing microbes. They use that on in the medical industry, on hospital gurneys, hospital beds. So you bag your waste and you put it in the middle and secure it with Velcro and you don’t smell it. And you can walk hands free. You don’t have to carry the bag. Waste. My dog is I have 13 and a half years old, my first dog ever.

And, you know, when I first started walking here, nobody told me. That’s usually when they the poop. So I was walking along and I wasn’t prepared enough bags or anything and just pooping on people’s lots. And I was like, Oh my God, I have to remember and have to go back and get in my car and drive it, pick it up, because I felt so guilty about it.

And so I was like, There’s got to be a better way.

Brett:

Welcome to the influencer podcast where we are talking was packed today, so we’ve got a whole product for dog influencers and dog people, myself included. Some interesting talk to Lisa Bass. She’s the creator of The Wolf Pack. Tell us about the Wolf pack, how it works so you can actually pick up after your dog. And I don’t have to carry it around in my hand or I get my cup of coffee and I’m worried about it with poop.

I can actually put it into some sort of sanitary pack and continue on with our walk. Is that right?

Lisa:

Yeah, that’s true. The middle. The middle compartment, which I’ll grab here if you can see inside there.

Brett:

Yep.

Lisa:

It is. It is lined with an antimicrobial material. So this antimicrobial material is traded to kill odor causing bug microbes. They use that on in the medical industry, on hospital gurneys, hospital beds. So you bag your waste and you put it in the middle and, you know, secure it with Velcro and you don’t smell it. And you can walk hands free.

You don’t have to carry the bag waste, you don’t have to smell. It also has separate pockets for all your essentials. So it’s like an all in one dog lock accessory bag.

Brett:

Yeah, it’s great because you want the dog. I don’t want to say this too loud. She’s laying. Right. But you want the treats there, right? And the.

Lisa:

Yeah.

Brett:

And the bags. But you want an A max. So you have the separate compartments, so. Well, I’m curious, what inspired you? What inspired you to come up with it? Because it’s kind of genius and is one of my least favorite things with the wax is you have the bag and you’re trying to get rid of it, and then you’ve got this.

You’re not. If you had a part, maybe you have the garbage cans from in the neighborhood, you kind of that moral quandary of, Do I feel bad about putting this in this? This can I’m just trying to get rid of this thing. So it’s nice that you take away all those hassle. So what made you kind of come up with this?

Lisa:

Well, you know, my dog is I have a 13 and a half years old, my first dog ever. And, you know, when I first started walking here, nobody told me. That’s usually when they they poop. Yeah. So I was walking along and I wasn’t prepared enough bags or anything, and he was pooping on people’s lawns and I was like, Oh my God, I have to remember and have to go back and get in my car and drive to pick it up because I felt so guilty about it.

And so I was like, There’s got to be a better way. Well, you know, when I was researching, I saw who bag holders and then treat bags, but nothing that was an all in one. So like I want something that’s an all in one, I can put my cell phone everything in there. Yeah. So I did that. It took me about oh, three years to do seven prototypes before I found what I really liked.

Brett:

Yeah, very cool. Yeah, I can imagine the microbiome. Antimicrobial and microbial. Thank you. But that was like kind of a breakthrough then in terms of, you know, getting rid of the like, I mean, the smell. I mean, that’s some serious stuff and it’s hospital grade.

Lisa:

Yeah, it is. And I think what differentiates that from other, you know, odor causing or odor inhibiting materials is that it actually kills microbes because that’s treated to kill odor causing microbes, bacteria.

Brett:

So, yeah, that’s awesome. But what is the maintenance look like then? Are you are you washing that every time or every so often? How does that.

Lisa:

I don’t really need to do that. You don’t have to know now. You don’t have to. I mean, if if it if it’s somehow something bleeds on it or something gets on it, which has never happened to me, you just pull it out, wipe it with a soft cloth, you know, with warm water. And it’s the same with the outside of it.

Yes. It’s, you know, very durable. You don’t have to wash it. Just wipe it clean.

Brett:

Yeah.

Lisa:

No, it’s low maintenance.

Brett:

That’s awesome. Okay. Yeah. So you even got room for the cell phone in the back?

Lisa:

Oh, yeah. It’s got three, three large pockets besides the middle compartment.

Brett:

Yeah, Yeah. Okay, cool. That’s awesome. How’s it been working from a distribution standpoint? Do you have it into, you know, what’s work for you or where is it found too? Did you have it into physical stores or mostly you’re selling it online through your website?

Lisa:

Yeah, mostly online. I do do vendor shows, but I’m going to be also launching on Amazon in the next month or so.

Brett:

Oh, that’s helpful. Yeah. Yeah. Well, congratulations. So are we looking to influencers? And as part of that, to create the demand, I was talking to someone who, you know, pretty well versed in Amazon and e-commerce stuff last week, and that was kind of his approach. Was he like his clients to the brands they have multi channels with their website to Amazon presence but then you got to create something to drive that demand so that people are looking for the work pack on Amazon.

Right. Or they’re looking for it and then they they float to Amazon. So is that part of your thinking with the influencers is to create that demand, get them out there, having to show it off.

Lisa:

Yes, creating that brand awareness. You know, they can, they can get it on the site or they can get it on Amazon. And I think to some, some affluent influencers like to partner at least some some of the ones I’ve tried to reach out to have like exclusive partnerships with certain brands like, Hey, I’d love to do your bag, but I already have somebody similar.

I’m working with an exclusively positive partnership, which is what I would love to do too.

Brett:

Oh, cool. Very cool. And what would that look like then, from an influencer standpoint in terms of compensation and product? You know, walk us through that.

Lisa:

Yeah. I mean, I think it would be something we could try out for six months, see how you know, how it works for both of us and, you know, negotiate the the compensation. So, I mean, sometimes they want money upfront, sometimes they want commission. So it’s something that we both that I’ve in the past work with employers through both negotiated the bill.

We felt comfortable with that mutually beneficial relationship.

Brett:

Got it. And then an existing affiliate program running also I see you’ve got a 20% commission on the collab, right?

Lisa:

Right.

Brett:

Yeah. Awesome. So I there want to get in. Is that kind of open anyone could sign up for the affiliate if I want to do a post walk in busy over here, I can sign up for a program and get my affiliate link and do my little retail and have, you know, my couple hundred followers. They can see it and get my other dog people interested.

Lisa:

Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. And I think I think it’s it’s you know, people that well influencers that have dogs that in its greatest they have multiple dogs that they’re outdoors with them a lot they’re on the go there in the mountains, they’re in the trails things like that because it is an outdoor on for for pet owners on the go.

So and it makes it easier because you know I, I had to tell you that about six weeks ago I switched my dog to a new brand of dog food. Oh, it was very high protein.

Brett:

Okay.

Lisa:

And you know, and a short 45 minute walk, he actually pooped six times.

Brett:

That’s impressive.

Lisa:

That’s and yeah. And I thought to myself, if I didn’t have this bag, I’d be walking around six bags of junk.

Brett:

Did you imagine and I salute you for having six bags wrapped.

Lisa:

Oh, yeah.

Brett:

Benefit of having a bag of the wolf pack.

Lisa:

Yeah, I’ve got my little up. I’ve got my little canister hooked on there and are pulling them out. And I’m thinking, are you kidding me? You know, I mean, and not just in one place. He moved to another spot. In another spot. I’m running after him with it. It’s like, man, you know, I mean, after get used to it is it doesn’t do that.

But if I didn’t have that bag I would have been miserable.

Brett:

Right? Yeah. 13 and a half hours. That’s a that’s a great accomplishment. I’m sorry. I can imagine. And I know with the senior dogs also, you’re always kind of chasing after I had a couple of the seniors before. And that’s part of life right there. You’re trudging around and the the tummy troubles is always at the end, right?

You’re always switching the foods in the snack. Yes. That’s a great innovation. And progress for the dog. Yeah.

Lisa:

Cool. Yeah.

Brett:

Well, thank you. Please, we will get the link to the collab below the video here below the podcast. So our influencers on an influencer can click and apply whether they’re interested in your in your affiliate program, which again has a 20% commission or if they would like to chat with you about potentially partnering and having like an exclusive partnership for the multi months as you had mentioned before.

I let you go, Lisa, where else can people find Wolf pack and follow you online and on social media?

Lisa:

Yeah. So I’m on Instagram at Wattpad Pack for you. Facebook left cat trails and Twitter wolf pack trails.

Brett:

Excellent. And again, we will get the link to your collab here. And thanks for joining us and also for creating a kind of a must have product for us dog owners. I mean, that’s genius to have and also the ability to not have to wash that thing is impressive.

Lisa:

Yeah, hands free odor, free, low maintenance, you know. Yeah, it and it’s durable last for years I’ve had people that have had their bags for five years. Now that’s still going strong. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I recently came out with border design, so now they’re kind of like, Well, I love my bag I’ve had for five years, but I want an indoor design now, so.

Brett:

Oh, yeah, very cool. Yeah, they’re buying again.

Lisa:

Yeah, yeah. It’s got to be attractive. You know that, right?

Brett:

Yeah. That’s great. Well, thanks so much, Lisa. Appreciate it. With the Wolfpack. So everyone follow and let’s get the applications into the collab here. Thanks again, Lisa.

Lisa:

All right. Thank you.
